Exposed spine binding



Through a systematic approach to layout and composition, I interweave six vastly different types of texts drawn from various fields of interest: poetry and prose written by a Song dynasty emperor who reigned for 25 years; news reports from the 25-year interval between WWI and WWII; the script of a television series that received a sequel 25 years after its original release; a murder case in Alaska that remained unsolved for 25 years; a satellite that operated in Earth’s orbit for 25 years; and the education a Chinese student should have received born in the year 2000.
Through this reconstruction of factual material, I explore my personal understanding of a shared temporal slice. The book is bound using exposed spine binding, hand-sewn by myself, and the front and back covers are laser-cut.
